Iron Supplement Timing
The best time to take bariatric iron is a time that preserves necessary spacing and allows you to take the prescribed amount consistently. There is no single clock time that works for every patient.

Keep iron away from calcium
Separate supplemental iron and calcium, commonly by at least two hours. Count an iron-containing multivitamin as iron and a calcium-fortified shake as a potential calcium source. A routine that puts both into the same breakfast may need rearranging. NIH iron information — NIH Office of Dietary Supplements
Consider food and tolerance
Iron can be harder to tolerate on an empty stomach. If nausea prevents adherence, ask whether the specific product can be taken with a small permitted meal. Tea, coffee, and some foods can affect absorption, so review the actual meal pattern with your dietitian. Avoid turning an idealized empty-stomach rule into weeks of missed doses.
Vitamin C may be discussed as part of an iron plan, but extra vitamin C is not automatically required for everyone. The full formulation, tolerability, and response matter more than adding products by habit. Clinical overview — Endotext / NCBI Bookshelf
Medication timing takes priority too
Levothyroxine commonly requires at least four hours from iron. Other medicines can have different intervals. Ask the pharmacist to place iron into your complete medication schedule; two hours is not a universal supplement-drug rule.
Write the final plan in terms of wake time, meals, and bedtime if you work shifts. If a multivitamin is split across the day, account for iron in each serving. Use the spacing guide to check the resulting schedule.
