Adjustable Gastric Band Vitamins
Adjustable gastric band surgery does not bypass the intestine, but eating less and tolerating fewer foods can still create nutritional gaps. A multivitamin plan and ongoing assessment remain relevant long after band placement.

What vitamins are needed after a band?
Your team will assess a daily multivitamin with minerals, calcium and vitamin D intake, and whether additional nutrients are needed. The regimen may be less intensive than after a highly malabsorptive operation, but previous deficiencies, poor intake, or vomiting can change the picture. Build a long-term schedule
Follow the product's full serving and your program's calcium plan. If the regimen includes iron, keep supplemental calcium in separate slots. Review food tolerance and any need for separate B12 or other nutrients at follow-up. Do not assume a children's vitamin supplies the amounts required for an adult plan.
Choose a form you can take comfortably and bring the label for review. A tablet that repeatedly sticks or provokes regurgitation is a reason to contact the bariatric team, not to keep forcing the same dose. See swallowing difficulty.
Repeated vomiting needs assessment
Vomiting after a band may reflect a mechanical or surgical problem as well as creating nutritional risk. Persistent vomiting can increase thiamine risk even when the operation itself is not malabsorptive. Seek prompt advice if fluids or supplements will not stay down. Ask who will coordinate your annual nutrition review if the original surgical program no longer follows you. Keep the band history and current symptoms visible to primary care, especially when supplement tolerance changes.
